Blog Spotlight: NewYorkShitty

One of the best parts of running these blogs is that you will inadvertently run into other cool blogs that are also doing some cool stuff. Enter: NEWYORKSHITTY

NewYorkShitty A.K.A.: thatgreenpointblog.com

In April of 2006 Miss Heather got fed-up with her Greenpoint neighbors’ dog shit all over the streets. She did what any decent, red blooded American would…she blogged about it. What is so compelling about a dogshit blog, you ask? Absolutely nothing. Who wants to look at a bunch of pictures of Brooklyn dogshit? Not me…that’s gross. Luckily Miss Heather is far more creative than that and began lacing her turds with commentary about her New York City experience.

New York Shitty Pipe

Soon it was less about shit from a dog and more about all of the shit around her. Photographs, stories, rants and rambles. Commentaries offer this new Yorker’s perspective of the city and are never too long-winded.

I like to pick through the archives menu on the left and choose a month, choose a post and kill some time browsing backwards or forwards, post by post. Miss Heather tells her readers a story of New York City at street level. If you live here you can relate to her commentary and familiarity of the city streets in the many photographs she posts.

Even if you’ve never been to Gotham, NewYorkShitty will give you a bit of perspective and clues into some of the inside jokes that you wouldn’t otherwise get.

Welcome To Unseen NYC

As you can probably see Unseen NYC has been up and rolling for a few weeks now. We started to populate the blog with a few images and told our friends and quietly got the word out about the site. We even got some good press from the NY Times & Sundance Channel blogs! But the site was just a few pictures on a blank background and not much to look at. But as the submissions rolled in we gave the site a facelift and added a few small articles and our little site is ready to get out into the world. So even if you have been checking out the site over the last few weeks…

Welcome to Unseen NYC.  This project officially starts today.

The Deitch Wall on Houston Street and Bowery

Barry McGee’s Houston Street Grand Finale

The Deitch wall went through another metamorphosis yesterday morning. This is a HUGE deal in NYC graffiti, and the fact they hit that thing in the middle of the day is insane.

The mural it’s covering was an homage to classic NYC graffiti legends…which was covering Shepard Fairey’s May Day Mural.

UPDATE: …and just like that, it’s gone.

Harry Potter Train Line on New York City Subway

MTA offering service to Hogwarts? Magical Harry Potter train line appears on subway sign

The new Harry Potter movie came out last Friday which means thousands of fans, young and old, don hats pointed hats, wizard wands and foam at the mouth for their chance to see the second to last installment. The Harry Potter movies are never a disappointment so I dig the hype. In the midst of the Harry Potter craziness, a clever fan stuck Platform 9 3/4 sticker on the Union Square Station on 14th St that got some attention from nydailynews.com on Monday. The MTA said they aren’t aware of a Harry Potter promotion  but, hey…check out the Driven By Boredom photobomb on the right.
